Persistent Service Technician

Review of SouthCoast Heat & Air

Charles came out mid week to address the dripping in two places of our AC unit. He was diligent to consider everything and spent needed time to determine the cause. Initially it appeared finished but one of the drip sites continued. He came back on a Saturday morning and did a couple of more things and it is working perfect. So thorough and so courteous. Very good diagnostic skills.

After adding 2 pounds of 410A the temperature split differential increases to 17 degrees. Upon arrival the system only maintained a 10 degree temperature split. In addition the pvc Drain Line was insulated all the way through to the exit of the attic. To include, all duct boxes were sealed and now airtight. There are no condensation issues at this time. All electrical components testing within range. To further correct the cooling issue of the house, attic insulation will need to be installed. Unfortunately at this time we do not have a specific recommendation for attic insulation services.

Upon arrival the return airway was producing a significant amount of water which was draining on to the floor. To confirm there was no blockage of any sort, the drain line was cut into and cleared with a vacuum cleaner. The solution to this issue is to replace the condensate pan as it is leaking water before it can drain.

On arrival, the condenser was not operating. After removing the electrical panel it was visible to see a destroyed contacted. This was due to the high electrical load pulled by the compressor. After replacing the contactor and neighboring burnt wires the condenser started back up with no issues. The compressor is still pulling in high amps due to its age. System is still holding the correct refrigerant charge and achieving a 15 degree temperature split.

The indoor blower motor’s capacitor is failing the motor, in addition the circuit Board fuse was blown. After replacing both components the system began to operate and cool the house. After starting the system up, amp draws were recorded on the outside condensing unit. The fan motor is pulling a large amount of amps and may be failing soon. In addition, the compressor is pulling more amps than average but is still testing in range. The remainder of the electrical components tested with positive results. To end, it is recommended the condenser fan motor should be replaced in the near future to prevent further damage to the system. Some other issues with the unit have to deal with the maintenance of the system. The condenser coil is very dirty and consists of roots growing throughout the unit. After testing the levels of the refrigerant, it showed a very high head pressure, which indicated dirty condensing coils. When this happens the system cannot remove heat from the house effecti
